IPTV on LG Smart TV
Same walled garden as Samsung, slightly different app availability.
Apps that work on LG
The most consistently available option on webOS
Web-portal configuration, works well on newer webOS
Alternative where the others are unavailable
Step by step
- 1
Open the LG Content Store
Press Home, then open the LG Content Store and search for Smart STB or IBO Player. As with Samsung, availability depends on your webOS version.
- 2
Record the MAC address
The app shows a MAC address on first launch. This is what identifies your TV to the portal.
- 3
Register and add your playlist
On the app developer's website, register that MAC and add your portal URL or playlist details.
- 4
Restart and set your timezone
Fully close and reopen the app. Then set your timezone explicitly in the app settings — leaving it automatic is a common cause of a guide that is hours out.
What LG cannot do
- —webOS blocks sideloading in the same way Tizen does
- —Memory constraints affect large programme guides
- —App availability differs between webOS versions, sometimes within the same model range
- —Paid licences on most players
Broadly the same picture as Samsung. LG webOS is a little more consistent about keeping older models supported, but the memory ceiling is identical. If your guide will not load after two attempts, an external streaming device is the pragmatic answer rather than more troubleshooting.
Test it on your own LG
Two hours of full access, no card details. Work through the steps above on your own hardware and find out whether it performs before you pay anything.
